Beauty Secrets of Honey

Beauty Secrets of Honey

For thousands of years, people have revered honey. This ensured that bees were well respected and protected because no bees, no honey. Nowadays, no bees, much less food. But we don't seem to care about bees the way people did back then.

All honey is potent, but raw, organic, unfiltered, unpasteurized honey—the kind our ancestors enjoyed—is the best.

In Ancient Egypt, Cleopatra was famous for her youthful beauty. She was known to bathe in milk and honey to keep her skin soft and supple. Try her legendary formula for yourself by mixing half a cup of honey with 4 cups milk and add it to your bath water with a few drops of your favorite fragrant essential oils.

Some of honey’s greatest attributes: anti-bacterial, antioxidant-rich, pore-opening clarifier, soothing moisturizer.

SKIN REPAIR Honey works particularly well on skin to mend damage and boost the epidermis. It works on wrinkles, acne, sagging and aging skin, irritation, sunburn, clogged pores, scars, age spots and blemishes.

In this 2:49-minute video by Vogue, Priyanka Chopra shares her family beauty secrets using honey:

SKIN FOOD Honey mixed with coconut oil, olive oil, avocado or argan oil is a wonderful nourishing skin food you can rub into your skin after a bath. To brighten or lighten skin, add some freshly squeezed lemon juice to the mix.

EXFOLIATOR BODY SCRUB Easy to make and apply, blend 2 parts honey to 1 part baking soda. Rub it into your face or skin and scrub a bit before washing it away to reveal fresh, smooth skin.

CLINICAL SETTINGS Manuka honey from New Zealand has a track record for helping repair wounds so it is used in hospitals by doctors and nurses on patients’ skin.

EASES A SORE THROAT Add a couple of teaspoons of honey to warm water and sip it to coat your throat for swift relief.

HAIR CONDITIONING Pour honey with water over your hair in the shower as a conditioner to make it soft and shiny. Or rub honey mixed with yogurt into your hair, wear a shower cap for half an hour, then rinse out.

LIP REPAIR Lip balms are often made with honey to sooth chapped lips. Try combining beeswax, honey and almond oil or coconut oil in equal parts. This replenishes lips while protecting them from the elements.

SLEEP REMEDY Swallow just 1 tablespoon of honey before bedtime for a deep, restorative sleep.
