Thursday of next week is Thanksgiving in the United States, a time when Americans traditionally come together, set aside their differences, and express gratitude for the good things that have happened during the year. This has been a challenging year in many ways, and finding gratitude may require us to dig deeper, but it is still the secret ingredient that defines Thanksgiving.
We all feel gratitude for honeybees. We are thankful for them, their pollination work that keeps a rich selection of fresh foods on our tables, and for the honey they share with us.
We thought today we would share a very easy and amazing recipe for just about the easiest dessert dish ever.
This idea is from Holly Clegg at Team Holly. It is geared to people who don’t want to bake a pie from scratch, or already have a full menu arranged and just want to add another delicious and unique pie to their traditional dessert selection.
The key to this recipe is that you buy a store-baked pumpkin pie or a pie of almost any flavor. It is ready to eat but you are going to dress it up by preparing this Honey Pecan Topping and adding it to the top of the pumpkin pie. Now you have created a unique Southern Pecan Pumpkin pie.
As always when we share a recipe with you, we encourage you to please watch this 3:31-minute video by Team Holly first all the way through, then gather up your ingredients, utensils and tools.
To make Holly’s Honey Pecan Topping, here are the ingredients you will need:
3 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 tablespoon butter
3 tablespoons honey
1 cup pecan halves
- In a saucepan combine brown sugar, butter and honey.
- Cook over low heat until it boils, keep stirring. Stir in pecans. Remove from heat.
- Spread topping evenly over the top of the store-bought pumpkin pie or the pie you just removed from your oven. Place the pie in an oven and broil it 1-2 minutes until the topping is golden brown and bubbly. Watch it carefully.
Even if you are not American and you don’t live in the USA, if you can get pumpkin pie and pecan nuts in your part of the world, this is a mouthwateringly delicious sweet treat.
